Government Incentives for Home Energy Efficiency
Government incentives such as tax credits and energy efficient mortgages are essential to creating a housing stock of high performance, energy efficient housing. The Building Technologies Program has studied the current effectiveness and market impact of current government incentive programs as well as the possibilities for scaling up these programs in the future.
Rebuilding Mortgages for Energy Efficiency. Residential energy consumption globally accounts for over twenty percent of energy use and despite the existence of the Energy Efficent Mortgage (EEM) program in the US, home energy consumption has not decreased. This article discusses the shortcomings of the EEM program and past and current barriers to successfully scaling up this program, then lays out a set of recommendations for program promotion and improvement.
